World Cup bbq

HAD family round last night for a World Cup barbecue. The food was good (if I say so myself), even though the football was rubbish.

Forgot to buy any vegetables, so had to think quick. Invented a tasty new titbit – new to me anyway. Stuffed onion! Red onion, 2 cloves garlic, a few chunks of chopped ginger, butter. Peel and cut the onion in half lengthwise, and remove a couple of layers from the middle. Stuff with chunks of garlic and ginger, and a knob of butter.

Put the onion halves back together, wrap tightly in foil and cook gently on the barbecue for half an hour, or until it softens.

You can tell I’m on holiday – this isn’t the sort of thing you rush home from the office to do. Next game it’s a slab of beef and a bottle of beer – and lots of English goals, we hope.

    • Glad to see the US of A holding their own in the World Cup. Last night’s England/Algeria game was dire. If you put the whole England squad in your barbecue and set fire to them, you wouldn’t get enough heat to toast a marshmallow.
